Great job folks! That was a lot of fun.
I wish I could have spent more time watching the powerlifting.
Afterward I did the powerlifts, and my numbers:
Squat: 255; Bench: 185; Deadlift: 370
If there’s one thing that separates CrossFit from other exercise programs I’ve been a part of, it’s the “community”, and it’s what drew me to it twelve years ago.
There’s a lot to be said for enduring TOGETHER. Community is big with me.
Given the chance to work out with someone or alone, I’ll always choose to exercise with another person. Despite my social disposition and the nature drive forward I receive while working out with a group, I have made it my goal, the past six months, to work out as hard ALONE as I do with others. But there is something about having someone alongside you that is just plain motivating. A study was done at Kansas State University that determined we work harder when working out with a partner… a partner we perceive — rightly OR wrongly — to be just a little bit better than we are. “The study builds on what’s known as the Kohler motivation gain effect — the idea that less-capable individuals perform better in a group setting — and found hitting the gym with someone thought to be better than ourselves boosts endurance and intensity by as much as 200 percent.”
This competition was the perfect opportunity to bond with these girls. It was, as I told Mr. Hilliker, my reason for signing up. I know Crossfit isn’t for everyone, but merely enduring these two required years will not be as fun as putting your heart and all-out effort into having fun and setting/accomplishing small goals along the way. The friendships forged through suffering together will be lasting ones. You have quite the community in your classes; I hope you’ll take advantage of growing your community.
Mr. Hilliker, thank you for allowing non-HWAC competitors into the action; I REALLY enjoyed it, and I’m proud of the hard work I saw out on the floor.

It was a lot of fun working out with everybody. Great job everyone!
