Back squat: 225-225-225(f3) – will stay—wasn’t feeling it on that last set. Even second set felt like I was cheating depth.
Bench press: 165-165-165 – WOW. I am stoked. I was at 155 two sessions ago and today I got a new 5-rep PR. Was not expecting that. Will go up.
Deadlift: 340 – This was OK, but I think I would be smart to stay at this weight.
Squat: 225-225-225 – will stay. Just want to make sure my form is rock solid.
Press: 125(f3)-125(f4)-125(f5)-125(f4). Bummer.
Deadlift: 340 – Will go up.
Back Squat: 200(PR)-200-200. Excited about a 2 as the first digit!
Press: 95-100-105. Numbers haven’t gone up but these felt better than the first attempt
Deadlift: 220. Will gradually climb up
Still need to assemble my weight bench so I am still doing the shoulder press. Really enjoying this program
Mr. H- What do you recommend doing on off days for conditioning and/or movements to aid each lift?
The program is 3 powerlifting days per week. I only work out 3 days a week, so that is all I do. And it is plenty. No extra exercises are needed for the beginner (which I consider myself as well).
Back squat: 220-220-220. Forgot I was going to stay, but my first set felt good so I kept going. Will go up.
Press: 110 (f4)-105-105. My lack of progress on shoulder press is starting to depress me.
Deadlift: 250 (f3). Had to regrip. Finished with 245. Will try 250 again.
Mr. H.: What are your thoughts on mix grip for the deadlift? Do you let the students use it? Do you use it?
I feel you on the press. Gains are slow there. Don’t be discouraged.
I use mixed grip on the work sets. The idea is to use overhand grip as long as possible in order to strengthen the grip. I can generally do all my warm-up sets with normal grip. But you don’t want to fail on a deadlift because your grip gives way.
